As of this morning we have one owlet hatched. She/he was barely born when I got up at 5:45, based on the fact that it was very weak and the mother had not eaten the shell yet. About an hour later, she did eat the shell.
Since then, she hasn't left the nest box for us to get another look at the newborn, but we are now live streaming at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrGcuxbAl_tZ-TKS8eEcS5g or Bird Talk With Terry Rich.

The female is now frequently chirping to her young, and you can also hear the faint, squeaky responses. These come not only from the hatched young, but also the ones about to hatch but still in the egg!
